Do you need prerequisites?

No certification is required to register. CompTIA recommends about 12 months of hands-on Linux server experience plus A+, Network+, or Server+ level knowledge. In practice, candidates who try to study their way through Linux+ from books alone — without ever breaking and fixing a real Linux system — tend to struggle, because the performance-based questions reward experience over memorization.

If you studied the previous version, the good news is that core Linux fundamentals carry over. But XK0-006 is a substantive refresh: it added Python scripting (absent from XK0-005 entirely), named Ansible and Puppet in the automation domain, brought Docker and Podman into the objectives, and introduced AI best practices.
